Artistic Lighting & Illumination in the Landscape

Warm-up by a stone fireplace and enjoy the ambient outdoor lighting. Outdoor lighting & illumination provides an extra dimension to the landscape. Imagine being able to look outside and see the warm white light cascading over your landscape. Shadows and textures come alive at night providing year-round enjoyment of your outdoor living spaces and landscape plantings.

In addition to providing a form of night-art, low-voltage lighting provide energy-efficient security when LED fixtures are selected. LED fixtures reduce maintenance costs, utility costs, & installation costs. LED low-voltage lighting systems are a great example of technological improvements in our landscape designs & planning process.

Better Outdoor Living by Stone Ridge

“How can we utilize our outdoor space better?” This common question stumps many clients both residential and commercial. We have developed several steps to identify the optimal space and budget for a new outdoor room.

The first thing we identify is how the space will be used. For example, will the space be used for small family meals and fires, or will the space host larger weekend parties? Often, a combination of these elements are included. Dining, lighting, shade structure, grilling, patio seating, & plantings are options commonly included with better outdoor living spaces.

Based on this feedback, our design team creates a 3D design model of your outdoor paver stone patio and living spaces. Just like your indoor rooms, we include floors, walls, and a ceiling. Based on the feedback from this design, we make any modifications required before starting the project.

Once the design is finalized, we present a budget for the living spaces. With the completed design & budget, our clients are able to review the entire project before site work is started. The 3D design communicates the ideas and goals of the project and our formal proposal ensures the project stays on-budget.

Many clients are surprised to find that even though our outdoor materials are more durable to withstand rain, sun, and snow, an outdoor room is more cost-effective than a comparable indoor room.

When the project is completed, many of our clients find they spend much more time outside. Our greatest compliment to a job well-done is hear our clients rave about how much they use their new room.

So, “How can we help you enjoy living outdoors more this year?” We know you’ll love your new space! Whether in Goshen, Elkhart, Granger, Syracuse, Lake Wawasee, Warsaw, Middlebury or the surrounding areas, we are able to create a great outdoor patio and living space.

Winter Snow & Seasonal Landscape Planning

It’s that time of year again. But, before you write-off winter take glance at these two simple landscapes and what do you see?

Winter interest takes many shapes and forms but even something simple can be elegant. The dark shadows contrasting with the fresh snow provide depth to what would otherwise be a cold and dark entry.

In our second image, the waterfall has been left running into the first several snows. Snow is draped over boulders and field stone. The babbling brook still provides a natural conversation for whomever will take a moment to listen.

As we head in for a snow weekend, look out your windows at night. Step out in the early morning. If you aren’t energized and refreshed by natural beauty, consider updating your landscape.

Native plantings can withstand cold temperatures while providing color and interest. Our two favorite shrubs at the moment are the Red Twig Dogwood & Maiden Grass.

If you already have a good day-time presentation, consider adding energy efficient outdoor lighting. With our new long-lasting warm LED lights, we can highlight your garden for enjoyment at night.

If you’re feeling really ambitious, try color changing fixtures. Use your smart-phone to change colors for holidays, foot ball parties, and high school football games. A professional lighting design is sure to chase away the winter blues!
